C19th Township names are used as location identifiers in C19th census records and do not necessarily include places we are currently familiar with. E.g Holmfirth was not then a township but is contained within Wooldale, Upperthong and Netherthong. Dave Pattern has produced an explanatory map which can be found by clicking: C19th Townships map
